The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 by the Pilgrims after their first devastating year in America. Governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving where a feast was shared by all the colonists and the neighboring Native American Indians. Celebrated annually after the harvest, President Abraham Lincoln appointed it a national day of thanksgiving in 1863, designating the fourth Thursdays in November as the holiday.(From DE)
