Dear MHA Community,

It seems as if we are going to be experiencing a wintery, winter this year.  I appreciate the effort many of our staff members make to be in school every day.

Please continue to login to review the weekly announcements.  They will be posted Sunday afternoon for those who would like to review the announcements and activities for the week.

Special Kudos go to Ms. Betancourt, Ms. Yalissa Jorle, Mr. Sefa, Ms. Monroe, Ms. Guzman, Ms. Facey, Ms. Otero, Mr. Chen, Mr. Jewan, and Ms. Cruz who on Tuesday, January 21st, successfully covered extended classes so that several of our colleagues, who live quite a distance from our school, could leave early to battle the weather and highway conditions.

I am happy to report that TST (Trauma, Systems & Therapy)  met last week with our PPT team to discuss next steps based on our students needs.  TST will be working with our students and families who experienced either a single trauma or are currently experiencing any chronic, complex trauma.

Starting in February, 2014, the TST team will be meeting on Wednesdays at 8:45 am - 9:30 am. Several of our PPT members will also be members of the TST team. Many of the meeting protocols will be the same, teachers will be asked to share their observed academic and behavioral concerns of students.  More information will follow.

All teachers will be asked to submit a wish list of  school items and materials they would like to purchase for their classroom.  Please log on to SHOPDOE.com and note the item and item number you would like to purchase for your classroom.  Each classroom teacher will be allotted $1000.00 for materials.  All materials purchased are considered PS 65 property.  The materials do not leave our building.  Do not add any electronics to your wishlist as we will make a school-wide purchase of IPADS, LAPTOPS and DESKTOPS for our school.   Mr. Adler will distribute a form for you to fill out.  The deadline for submission is Friday, February 14, 2014.

Out Afterschool Program will begin on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. The program targets our students in grades 3-5 who scored a level 1 on the Math or ELA State exam.   The program runs from Tuesday - Thursday, 2 hours each day.

Sean Harrell from our network addressed and fixed all of our DRA concerns.  Please visit STARS and enter your data in a timely manner.  If you have any questions, please reach out to me again.

All classroom teachers: please submit the Winter Student Packet to me by Friday, February 7th.  No copies will be made without my written approval.

Vital: Under no circumstances are adults to send students down to the main lobby to pick up deliveries or handle money exchange.  Any teacher ordering food must pick up their own deliveries.  No exceptions.

There has been a decrease in the amount of B Bucks given to students this month.  It is imperative that we continue to acknowledge the positive behaviors that support the learning in our school community. Please make sure to print enough B Bucks for the week.  If you need assistance, reach out to Mr. Jewan, Mr. Mehno or Ms. Cuevas. All staff members should be acknowledging students' positive behaviors daily.  Remember: There is no limit to the amount of B Bucks you should distribute throughout the day!!   A daily goal of 20 B Bucks would be a good place to start!
Every Monday , our student PBIS committee will be collecting B Bucks from  each classroom.  PBIS assemblies will take place on Thursday during morning line-up.
