Week of September 16th – 20th:
Dear Members of the MHA PS 65x Community:
Congratulations: Our first week of school was a success. Students and family members were receptive to the PBIS School and Classroom Culture we strive to accomplish. Additionally, the first, of the many, Evacuation Drills (both the Fire and Bus Drills) were a success. Thank you to all of the MHA Members.
Teachers: please be sure to notify both Ms. T. Rivera and Mr. Adler of any students that are on your roster but have not attended school or with more than two (2) days of absences. Additionally, please ensure that you are in possession of the cumulative folder of each child that is present in your classroom.
This week we have a number of wonderful events occurring that will encourage and build our relationships with our students and families: “Dads bring your Child to School Event,” “Parent Orientation,” and “Wear your Favorite Hat Day.”
As we become familiar with our new students, please communicate directly with both Ms. Presto and Ms. DeMichele as to the assessments that should be occurring. Additionally, results are to be submitted via email to both Administration and Coaches. Remembers: classroom teachers and enrichment teachers are the first “intervention service provider”; through the use of differentiation, etc. Should you require the support of our Tier 3 Team Members, PPT, kindly commence anecdotal documentations. Below is a brief overview of the school’s PPT:
PPT · A Pupil Personnel Team (PPT) is a standing Committee, within each student that uses non-judgmental, collaborative and confidential approach to review and evaluate the needs to specific students who are not demonstrating success in their current educational program. · The PPT uses multidisciplinary approach to examine why an individual student is demonstrating significant academic, social, behavioral and/or physical needs and then develops supportive strategies and services. · PPT members: Ms. Hunt, Ms. Kirshner, Mr. Ramos, Ms. Ross, Ms. Maida, Ms. Campbell, Mr. Mehno, Ms. Suckow, Ms. J. Sanchez, Ms. C. Sanchez and Ms. Sone · All minutes are kept in the PPT binder located in room 308. Please see Ms. Sylvia Rivera for a copy of the minutes. For copies of IEPs, please see Mr. Ramos.
By the end of this week, (September 20th), Classroom Teachers will be receiving the schedule for each service provider (ESL, Counselors, AIS, Speech, OT, PT, etc.) Please review the date and time that your student(s) will be picked-up and make necessary accommodations for him/her to receive missed lessons. I encourage classroom teachers and providers to work closely with one another and share lessons and strategies used in the classroom for the betterment of the child’s education. Remember: “Together we grow stronger.”
Administrative class walk-throughs will commence this month; as to not interrupt the lesson, please have your lesson plan available for our review. Please refer to the Teacher Resource Page at the MHA website for Lesson Plan Template created with the Common Core and Danielson Framework components/expectations.
Lastly, a reminder, that the Technology Prep periods will be conducted in the classrooms (Push-In) with Ms. Banks for the month of September 2013.
